Crystal Palace have completed the signing of Joachim Andersen from Lyon on a five-year deal. The center back spent last season on loan at Fulham in the Premier League. He featured for Denmark in the Euro 2020 as well. Andersen is new coach Patrick Vieira’s fourth signing after he replaced Roy Hodgson in the summer. This is the second defensive signing for Palace after they signed marc Guehi from Chelsea.
“I’m extremely proud to be joining Crystal Palace and to be playing in the world’s best football league,” Joachim Andersen said after signing for Crystal Palace. “The management of the club and Patrick Vieira have given me very strong assurance that they know my qualities, they believe in me and want me to play an important role in the team.”
”I have a very positive impression of Patrick from the conversations I have had with him, and I have heard nothing but great things about the manager, the club, and its plans for the future,” he added.
Andersen had drawn interest from a number of big clubs after his performances for Fulham last season. Tottenham were one of the clubs chasing his signature after long-serving defender Toby Alderweireld left the club. Vieira has also signed Michael Olise from Reading and goalkeeper Remi Matthews on a free transfer. This is his first managerial job in the Premier League. He will be hoping to add more firepower upfront after scoring just 41 goals last season.
