In their 2-1 Liga victory over Real Sociedad, Jordi Alba felt Barcelona had produced their best performance in 2020.
After dominating the opening 25 minutes without managing a shot on target, the Catalans fell behind on Tuesday to a Willian Jose goal at Camp Nou.
However, they responded well before setting up Frenkie de Jong to make it 2-1 before half-time, Alba blasting home a fine equalizer.
After the break, Real Sociedad improved, reducing Barca to just 38.6 percent of possession after the hosts had enjoyed two-thirds of the ball in the first half, but the only save of note from Marc-Andre ter Stegen came late when Alexander Isak blocked an attempt.
Because of their first back-to-back league victories since October 1, Barca, who have defeated Sociedad 23 times in a row in home league matches, are just six points off the top of the table.
Alba thought that the first half was the best showing for Barca in 2020, even though he modestly suggested that his emphatic equalizer had an element of chance.
He said to Movistar, “It was the best game of the year,” “I am very happy with the attitude and struggle of the team. The morale was fantastic and the table] we keep climbing.
“We have altered the way they play. We knew it was going to be a tough game against one of La Liga’s best teams. I get more satisfaction from providing assists. From those kinds of shots, you score one in a hundred. I was lucky. I was lucky. Soon after they got their goal, we scored and the team played a great game. We saw a great Barca fighting for every ball.”
