Scott Parker says Premier League proposed rearranging the London derby against Tottenham on Saturday, something he felt was not “realistic”; Jose Mourinho doesn’t believe Fulham are hard off playing the game at short notice
Fulham manager Scott Parker says it is “scandalous” the Premier League announced Wednesday’s rearranged match against Tottenham on Monday.
On December 30 before the match was postponed hours before kick-off due to a coronavirus outbreak within Parker’s team, Spurs was originally due to host Fulham – something that had irritated Jose Mourinho. The Premier League rescheduled the London derby for the same night, with Tottenham’s Premier League trip to Aston Villa, scheduled for Wednesday, delayed due to an outbreak in the Villa camp.
Parker said in his pre-match press conference: “I’m upset because it’s not right. It’s wrong. That’s why I’m so angry. It’s wrong.”
He added: “The opportunity came on Saturday to play Spurs on Wednesday. We didn’t think that was realistic and we were informed Monday morning at 9:30. To confirm that on Monday morning is scandalous. I accept we have to play the game, but it’s the notice.”
Asked if it was necessary for Fulham to prepare for the game on Wednesday at short notice, Mourinho responded: “Are you serious? They had 48 hours to prepare for this game. Look, I had the news I was not going to play them two hours before the game started.”
Parker, however, denies Mourinho’s statements because he claims that preparing for a game that does not happen is very distinct from one that does, although he also pointed out that Spurs were already planning for a midweek game.
