Barcelona’s president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, says he has “no question” about Argentina agreeing on a new deal with the club. The new contract expires in 2021, for the 33-year-old.
BBC Sport’s columnist Guillem Balague recently claimed Messi was “fed up” at the Spanish team.
“Messi has said that he wants to retire several times here and I do not doubt that he will re-sign,” Bartomeu told Mundo Deportivo.
“Behind La Liga’s Real Madrid champions in the domestic season, Barcelona ended five points. We play last-16 tie with Napoli in the second leg of their Champions League on February 8 with the score 1-1.”
Messi, who won the La Liga Golden Boot with 25 goals, said “things have to improve” at the club.
On the front of the move, Bartomeu added: “We ‘re making decisions now and if the players don’t come in as part of a player swap, it’s very difficult for them to get in.”
