Barcelona’s President Josep Maria Bartomeu faces a premature end to his tenure, after calling for a vote of no confidence against him.
A party of club members known as ‘Mes Que un Moccio’-More Than a Motion-activated the vote after collecting 20,731 valid signatures in favor. 16,520 were required for the referendum to be opened.
Barcelona now has 10 working days to set up a green light committee to organize the voting schedule which should start in mid-October.
To exclude Bartomeu, a vote of 66 percent will be required, with a minimum attendance of 10 percent of the club members, or socios.
If the vote were to be successful, Bartomeu would be automatically removed and the vote would be managed by an interim board, which would be put forward until December.
