Juan Mata has signed a one-year extension at Manchester United. The extension will ensure that Mata stays for the 2021/22 season at the club. He signed from Chelsea in 2014 and has made 273 appearances for the club. Mata has scored 51 goals while providing 47 assists during his time at Old Trafford. he made just 18 appearances for United last season. Solskjaer values his experience and influence over the young dressing room.

Mata’s extension was announced a day after the club announced that they had reached an agreement for the transfer of Jadon Sancho for £73m. Sancho will undergo medical once he is back from Euro 2020. Dortmund made a stock exchange announcement on Thursday morning, which also confirmed Sancho has agreed personal terms with United, with the transfer set be completed subject to a medical.

Manchester United is also interested in signing Raphael Varane from Real Madrid as they are looking for an experienced defender to partner up with Harry Maguire. The club has also signed Tom Heaton on a free transfer after his Aston Villa contract expired.
