Seville was held by a persistent Real Valladolid in the Friday night encounter to a fourth consecutive draw at La Liga. Kiko Olivas opened the scoring for the visitors in the 25th minute with a looping header over the reach of Tomas Vaclik, whose positioning may have been questioned.

The second half saw a relentless stream of pressure coming from Seville and they thought it had paid off ten minutes after the break when Munir El-Haddadi converted a cross from Jesus Navas, but it was eventually overruled by VAR in a marginal offside decision.

Julen Lopetegui ‘s side became more and more frustrated as they camped in the visitors for half of the second half and their pressure paid off with seven minutes remaining as they were awarded a penalty, later converted by Lucas Ocampos – his 12th campaign league goal.

Yet it was the visitors who almost stole victory at the end – Vaclik thwarted Ruben Alcaraz’s fine solo sprint, redeeming himself for his earlier one, although Enes Unal ‘s efforts were also halted by the Czech in the last minute of extra time.

Seville remains fourth – but the result gives hope to Getafe, Real Sociedad, Villarreal, and Valencia that they can still catch them as Valladolid moves up to 14th.
