Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp believed West Brom deserved their 1-1 draw at Anfield, a slick second-half display from his side. Jurgen Klopp felt West Brom deserved the 1-1 draw they claimed at Anfield on Sunday to test Liverpool’s title defense. The Reds looked poised to go five points clear at the top, thanks to Sadio Mane’s sublime 12th-minute strike.
“It was our fault. I don’t think anyone can expect that a team plays like West Brom in the first half, like a 6-4 [formation] or whatever it was,” Klopp told Sky Sports before the break, commenting on the ultra-defensive approach of Albion.
“I figured we were all right. We scored the goal and gave nothing away, no set pieces in particular. We didn’t do the same again in the second half. They had as many as three counter-attacks in the first five minutes of the second half. We gave them straightforward, easy corners. It was the only thing that they wanted to have and we gave it away. That’s why it’s our fault and that’s why it is only one point instead of three.”
