RB Leipzig had been busy trying to drum up support before the return to the Bundesliga on Saturday.
As the first of the major leagues in Europe, Leipzig host Freiburg returns to action behind closed doors on Saturday, and with football pausing elsewhere in Leipzig, Twitter users were encouraged to throw support behind their title push.
Specifically one post has sent Liverpool fans into a panic, with RB Leipzig using striker Timo Werner attempting to pique Reds fans’ attention.
They tweeted: “Reason 11: @LFC fans. You love Timo # Werner. That’s what we do. Let’s help him!”
And the German talk has excited Reds fans, with one reply to the Twitter post: “So we get Werner?”
Another added: “Welcome to Liverpool, then do the deal.”
With Liverpool followed by the likes of Bayern Munich and Inter Milan chasing the striker, Werner’s goalscoring exploits have caught the attention of several top clubs in recent seasons. Nonetheless, it’s a move to Merseyside that seems to appeal most to Werner, the striker has gone on record in expressing a desire to play for Jurgen Klopp in the Premier League.
The social media post teasing interest from Liverpool comes hot on the heels of Red Bull chief Ralf Rangnick declaring Liverpool to be Werner’s best choice.
