Lothar Matthaus, the legend of Bayern Munich, has slammed Pep Guardiola as ‘egocentric,’ adding that since leaving Barcelona, Manchester City has “failed again and again.”
Since leaving Barca in 2012 the Catalan has failed to win the Champions League either with Bayern or City.
“I have the feeling with Pep Guardiola that he tries to do something special at major games,” the ex-Bayern and Germany defender told Sport Bild. “Barcelona had a DNA, a device that he pushed through. Pep succeeded there. He tried it over and again with improvements with Bayern and City and failed again and again.
“He wanted to prove that he could do even better. I’d like to say: Pep, you’re a big teacher-but just keep your system!
“I’d characterize that as being egocentric. Yeah, it’s a difficult word but it’s because of what he’s done. Robert Lewandowski was also expected to play the left wing once at Bayern. That didn’t work out.
