Manchester United center-back Harry Maguire expressed his belief that Manchester United would need to be “mentally solid” to return to the top while expressing his intention to win trophies in the years to come.

Maguire has agreed to a six-year contract at Old Trafford after making a landmark £80 million ($99 m) move from Leicester last year, making him the most expensive player in the world. The 27-year-old has since justified his price tag by helping turn the Red Devils into a strong defensive force once again, establishing a powerful partnership with Victor Lindelof at the back.

The player accepts the fact that United was always too volatile in the first half of the season but claims positive signs of progress were seen in 2020. “Like a Red, we are our worst enemy,” Maguire said during an MUTV Q&A. “I would agree that at times this year we might have let ourselves down as a team by being a little more illogical.”

“There were times when we played so competitively, and then we dropped a little bit and were disciplined. So I’d say we’re our biggest enemy.” “We need to be mentally strong. We are a youth community so we just don’t want to make use of it as an excuse. We want to be young but we still want to be old. This is where we have been picked up in the last couple of weeks.

Following his arrival at the Theater of Dreams back in August, Maguire outlined his silverware dreams and doubled his remarks when outlining his potential goals.

“I have joined this club because I want trophies to be won and I want silverware,” he said. “I want to make sure that I have a few medals in the cabinet when I look back on my time at Manchester United.”
