Manchester City has recently made its bid for Barcelona’s superstar Lionel Messi, offering three players to the Catalans in addition to a € 100 m total.
Barcelona has been sold, according to SPORT, to Eric Garcia, Bernardo Silva and Gabriel Jesus along with an extra €100 m as Manchester City step up its attempts to reunite Pep Guardiola with the Argentine legend.
The city was alerted to the possibility of signing Messi after an amazing event turn on Tuesday night when Messi gave Barcelona documents calling for the club to leave.
Messi had been rumored to want to invoke the clause in his contract that allowed him to revoke his contract unilaterally at the end of this season.
However, Barcelona said the clause expired in June when the season will end in 2019-20. Messi’s camp says the COVID-19 lockout extended the season until August, and the clause remains true.
There seem to be grounds for a legal tussle in Barcelona, with the club refusing to give ground on the expiry of the clause in the contract of Messi. SPORT says that Barcelona is adamant that Messi will only be allowed to leave the club if its €700 m release clause is completely fulfilled.
SPORT notes that the Catalans are satisfied with Eric Garcia and Bernardo Silva, out of the three players offered to Barcelona. They say that Barcelona is not fully convinced by Gabriel Jesus, who has yet to fully nail down a Manchester City starting XI spot.
Guardiola will be waiting to reunite with Barcelona’s best player of his age. The current Manchester City coach changed Messi’s position to that of a false nine and, during his four years at the Nou Camp, he got the best out of him and will be desperate to deliver the same at Manchester City.
The city is going through a mini-rebuild, having finished 18 points behind last season’s Liverpool champions of the Premier League.
