After Nathan Ake was the latest to experience a setback on Wednesday night, Manchester City’s injury woes have escalated, carrying 90min.
In their friendly match with Spain in Amsterdam, the versatile defender started at center-back for the Netherlands but had to be taken off after just six minutes. He was pictured clutching his right hamstring, which seems to be the injury’s cause.
In a £ 40million move from relegated Bournemouth, Ake arrived at City last summer and looked promising in his first few appearances. However, owing to what Pep Guardiola called ‘niggles in the groin,’ he has already suffered from an injury having missed three games in October.
As yet there is no sign of how bad the latest hamstring injury is and if the 25-year-old would face some time on the sidelines, but it must be daunting for the Blues manager to lose another player to the recovery room.
Games are being played in a much smaller time frame than usual due to the truncated nature of the season and it has led to a marked increase in muscle injuries throughout the Premier League.
