Manchester United’s curiosity in Raphael Varane has piqued Real Madrid’s interest. According to The Mirror, Real Madrid is increasingly warming to the notion of Manchester United following Raphael Varane.
Over the past ten years, the Frenchman has lived in Madrid. He has established himself as one of the best defenders in the world during that period, winning major awards for both club and country.
Varane’s new contract at the Santiago Bernabeu expires in 2022, and it is unlikely that he will extend it at this point.
Although Zinedine Zidane is relieved to retain the defender, Real is concerned that he will be available for free next season. The best chance they have of being able to claim top dollar is if they can
Although Zinedine Zidane is relieved to retain the defender, Real is concerned that he will be available for free next season. The upcoming summer will give them the best chance of being able to command top dollar.
This is great news for United, who are looking for a center-back. Varane would provide us with a player who, at 27 years old, is in the prime of his career and can play for several more years.
Varane is priced at £70 million and will not be cheap. He would, however, be worth his weight in gold due to his experience.
The Frenchman isn’t United’s only defender on the team. Jules Kounde of Sevilla and Tyrone Mings of Aston Villa are among the others. While the former is a promising young player, Mings is a big step down from the other two.
To his credit, Villa is arguably a better leader than Maguire and has shown that he can organize a backline.
