Sassuolo sporting director Giovanni Carnevali revealed that Arsenal is ahead in the race to sign Manuel Locatelli. He further revealed that they had received a formal offer for the player. Locatelli has emerged as one of the stars of Euro 2020, scoring a brace in a 2-0 win over Switzerland in the Group Stage. He mentioned that there were still talks ongoing with Juventus but Arsenal were leading the race amongst clubs outside Italy.
“Juventus are the only Italian club we talked to about Locatelli,” Carnevali said about the Arsenal target Manuel Locatelli. “We met last week with (Juventus sporting director Federico) Cherubini. There is interest from their side, we haven’t explored all the terms and evaluations, but we have an excellent relationship with Juventus so we will continue these talks.”
“It’s true that other clubs from abroad are interested, Arsenal are one of these and they are ahead of everyone else because they tabled the only concrete offer we have received so far.” he added.
Italy topped their group at the Euro 2020 before defeating Austria in the round of 16. They will now take on Belgium, the highest-ranked team in world football. Italy conceded their first goal in more than 10 games against Austria. Under Mancini, they have emerged as one of the tournament favorites after their pragmatic performances in the group stages. They have increased their unbeaten run to three years stemming back to October.
