When Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp took Mohamed Salah off in the 62nd minute against Chelsea on Thursday night, he looked disappointed.
With just under half-an-hour left to play, the Egypt international was hooked after failing to make a meaningful impact on his former employers.
As Klopp attempted to save something from the game at Anfield, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was brought on in his place, and Curtis Jones was replaced by Diogo Jota.
Mason Mount’s first-half strike had put the Reds down 1-0 at the time.
Liverpool was not at their best against Thomas Tuchel’s side for the second time in as many weeks.
With 17 goals this season, Salah is the Premier League’s top scorer, but Klopp chose to take his team’s star player off halfway through the second half.
Salah seemed to be irritated by the decision…
Klopp had yelled at Salah to return minutes ago, according to sportswriter Matt Critchley.
Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, tweeted the following shortly after the player scored…
Although it was just a full stop, he was perplexed by Klopp’s decision.
“Re that tweet by Salah’s agent, where is he going?,” Miguel Delaney of The Independent tweeted. Since the Spanish big two don’t have any income, they’d probably prefer to go younger. Liverpool would not tolerate anything less. If he does, he would surely just wait out his contract and go on a Bosman?”
