In the match against Juventus, Napoli successfully appealed against a technical loss and the exclusion of one point. In reversing the decision of the Italian Court of Arbitration for Sport, the Appeal Committee of the Italian Olympic Committee ruled that the Series A match, which had not taken place in the autumn, should be held and that the Neapolitans should be given back the points which they had withdrawn.
It should be noted that on October 4, after the local health authority did not release the team from Campania due to an outbreak of coronavirus at the club, Napoli did not travel to Turin for the game against Juve.
Owing to the local health authority’s ban on traveling to Turin, the Gennaro Gattuso-led team decided to have the match postponed.
Serie A argued that there was no need to delay the match and awarded a technical defeat to Napoli, depriving them of one point. It was endorsed by the Italian Football Federation and those bodies’ appeal committees ruled in their favor.
It should be remembered that an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland remains the only possibility of appealing against this ruling.
