Niko Kovac commented on Monaco’s win at Paris Saint-Germain as the French side completed a season sweep of the Ligue 1 champions.
Niko Kovac said Monaco had to nullify star Kylian Mbappe when he announced how the French side surprised the Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Thanks to the 2-0 shock in Paris on Sunday, Monaco became the first team to beat PSG twice since Nancy in 2011-12 in a single Ligue 1 season.
Fourth-placed Monaco, the winner of two PSG points and six Lille leaders over 26 matches, kept Mbappe quiet.
Monaco head coach Kovac told Canal+ afterward: “I am very happy with my team’s performance. Paris is a great team. For 90 minutes, we played hard and we deserved the win. They didn’t have a lot of chances. I have to thank my players.
Our plan? Our plan? Kylian Mbappe had to be erased because he’s a big striker. By being three or four on it, you rob him of the ball. We showed another Monaco face in defense, so we didn’t concede a lot of chances.
Tonight was wonderful. This is what we needed. We managed to beat PSG for the second time, now we are going home and going to rest.”
