Thomas Tuchel Believes that his new-look Chelsea has the “edge and glue” to be legitimate Champions League title, challengers.

Chelsea defeated 10-man Atletico Madrid 2-0 in the second leg of their last-16 tie on Wednesday at Stamford Bridge, thanks to goals from Hakim Ziyech and Emerson Palmieri.

The Blues defeated LaLiga’s leaders 3-0 on aggregate to progress to their first Champions League quarter-final since 2014, with Tuchel stretching his unbeaten streak at Chelsea to 13 games.

Eagerly expecting Friday’s last-eight draw, Tuchel insisted Chelsea should have no fear of anybody in the tournament – and lauded his team’s tenacity as vital to their continued European chances.

“The most important thing is that we believe we deserve it,” Tuchel said.

“The most critical thing is that we provide input to the guys on how they performed here in terms of consistency and strength.

“It is important that you believe it and that no one needs to persuade you. You could sense it.

“I’m fairly confident that no one wishes to play against us. We are now in the final eight, so the challenge ahead is incredibly daunting.

“It’s a huge jump, so don’t be afraid; we’ll take what we can and plan the best we can.”

Atletico had Stefan Savic sent off late in the game for elbowing Toni Rudiger off the pitch, and the Madrid men were soundly defeated.

Since Tuchel took over as manager from Frank Lampard, Chelsea has kept 11 clean sheets in 13 games without a loss.
