Former England forward Michael Owen talked about the plan of Manchester United for striker transfers. If you look at the recent history of Manchester United, they have signed several of the players who came to the club at the end of their careers.
“Look at Cavani, Ibrahimovic, Van Persia, Henrik Larsson,” said Owen at Astro Stadium.
At the very end of their careers, Man Utd are desirable to players. At the beginning of [a player’s] career, Rooney is the last forward they purchased. At least you have a regular who’s been playing at the club for 10 years, in that case.
Man Utd is struggling at the moment to find the kind of young player who can hold nine positions for a long time. I think Haaland from Borussia Dortmund is one player who comes to mind who could play for them for 10 years and save them from having to continually buy temporary options [to reinforce the attack]. Right now, he’s on everyone’s radar.’
