Mesut Ozil is currently in negotiations with DC United, giving him the chance to become the ‘face’ of the Major League Soccer outfit with the Arsenal outcast.
In the January transfer window, Ozil was strongly linked with a move away from the Gunners, after it became apparent that he had no future at the club under Mikel Arteta.
As Arsenal looks to cash in before his deal expires at the end of the season, rumors have linked the midfielder with Turkish club Fenerbahce and Serie A giants Juventus.
Even though he has not played for the Premier League club since March, there are concerns that the 32-year-old might sit tight and see out his contract. But with a contract that would give Ozil the chance to grow his brand in the USA, DC United may be about to come to Arsenal’s rescue.
Ozil is in talks with the MLS side, who, according to Football London, have given him an ‘attractive’ package. The deal is said to include the expansion in DC’s stadium of its 39 Steps coffee brand, as well as its merchandise line.
Dr. Erkut Sogut, Ozil’s agent, has a close relationship with Sam Porter, the DC United executive, who was instrumental in bringing Wayne Rooney Stateside from Everton two and a half years ago.
Ozil, meanwhile, dropped a hint that as speculation continues to link him with the Turkish club, Fenerbahce may also be a choice.
