Alan Browne did not have close ties, according to the FAI, but played 90 minutes against England before testing positive.
Republic of Ireland midfielder Alan Browne tested positive for Coronavirus after playing the full 90 minutes against England on Thursday. Browne was part of the Ireland team defeated 3-0 at Wembley after goals from Harry Maguire, Jadon Sancho, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Testing has shown that since that match, however, the Preston North End man has contracted COVID-19. There were no close encounters with Browne, who had a game-high 13 duels,’ said FA Ireland on Friday.
“Ahead of Sunday’s UEFA Nations League [game] against Wales in Cardiff, the rest of the staff and squad checked negative,” a short statement read on Twitter.
