Nasser Al-Khelaifi, president of Paris Saint-Germain, believes the club deserves its place in the final of the Champions League after beating RB Leipzig 3-0 in their semi-finals on Tuesday.
Having finally banished their quarter-final demons against Atalanta in a dramatic 2-1 victory last week, the Ligue 1 giants made light work with goals from Marquinhos, Angel Di Maria and Juan Bernat to secure their place in the decision-maker.
This will be the first-ever final for PSG in the elite competition in Europe and comes after a historic 110 games before eventually making it.
Although the French club has experienced plenty of domestic success following a Qatari takeover in 2011, they have failed to step up in the Champions League with Al-Khelaifi savoring the fact that their ultimate vision is on the cusp of becoming a reality.
“It’s a historic night, the first time in the UCL final. Amazing evening. The team had a perfect match against a tough team. I’m very proud, proud of my players, proud of my technical staff,” Al-Khelaifi told RMC Sport.
“We weren’t moving back to London, we decided to live in Lisbon.
“It’s like a dream. I hope it continues! We deserve it. I just don’t know what to say tonight. To us, it is a great evening. We weren’t moving back to London, we decided to live in Lisbon. It’s like a dream. I hope it continues! We deserve it. I just don’t know what to say tonight. To us, it is a great evening. We’ve been close to our dream since 2011 at PSG. We are there, we deserve, we want to go as far as possible.”
Thomas Tuchel ‘s side will now face either Bayern Munich or Lyon with the German manager ready for the biggest game of his career in the final on Sunday night.
