Inter Milan has approached Paris Saint-Germain about signing right-back Achraf Hakimi this summer. Read more PSG news here.
Hakimi joined Inter from Real Madrid in 2020 as the final piece of Antonio Conte’s title-winning puzzle, and he had a fantastic season, scoring seven goals and adding 11 assists across all competitions.
Inter would want to keep the 22-year-old, but the Italian club is now in a difficult financial condition and is trying to sell roughly £80 million worth of players – something Conte was so dissatisfied with that he left the club after winning the title.
Inter is considering using Hakimi to make the most of that money. According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport, with PSG willing to pay anything between £43m and £50m for the Moroccan international.
Inter has been reluctant to let Hakimi go in the hope that he would be the last important sale of the summer. The talks have been underway for some time and are said to be progressing in the right way.
A transfer to France for Hakimi may have big consequences for several teams across the continent. In addition to being an absolute screamer for PSG, whose troubles at right-back have lasted an eternity.
The likes of Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez have been pursued by Europe’s elite. They are hoping to profit from the financial turmoil and Conte’s departure by selecting the bones of the title-winning team.
If Inter can get the necessary funds by selling Hakimi, they will be under less pressure to sell either Lukaku or Martinez. They will be able to demand ridiculous sums from their suitors.
Lukaku is a target for Chelsea and Manchester City. Both clubs are looking to spend money on a new striker this summer.
Martinez, meantime, is being monitored by City, Chelsea, and Liverpool, according to 90min. The Argentine has also piqued the curiosity of Real Madrid and Barcelona.
