There was always a sense that the decision of Lionel Messi to stay in Barcelona this summer merely postponed the inevitable, and it seems that the circus is about to start again.
Under Ronald Koeman, there have been some developments, but there are still a lot of the same issues, and even most Barca fans can admit that they are not serious challengers right now in La Liga or the Champions League.
A player of the caliber of Messi deserves to go out on top rather than suffer through a time of transition, and PSG has been credited with an interest in having him signed up:
“It was always going to take a club with a lot of money to sign him, so the most obvious suitors were PSG and Man City, but this article reveals that PSG had already reached out to his dad about a pre-contract deal. It would be awesome to see in France a front three of Messi, Mbappe, and Neymar, though it would also be a bonus that shifting Messi to PSG would result in Mauro and Wanda Icardi’s all-powerful tantrum as it would possibly drive them out the door.
It would make a complete joke of financial fair play if PSG could make this happen, but that front three would give them their best chance of winning the Champions League.”
Messi would probably want to wait until Barca’s presidential election is over early next year before the final decision is made, but an exit from the Nou Camp always looks more likely than not.
