Christian Pulisic announced that on his first day at Chelsea, “nobody heard” him, with the United States needing to “earn respect” from those around him at Stamford Bridge.

The 21-year-old winger took a £58 million ($72 m) deal to west London in the summer of 2019.

Having made his name in the Bundesliga at Borussia Dortmund, the ambitious player took on a challenge from the Premier League.

However, upon arrival in England, Pulisic was “nerve” and was hardly given the warmest welcomes in a foreign world.

However, potential has shone through, and the hard-working forward has surmounted a slow start to life in the Premier League to take on a regular role under Frank Lampard.

It wasn’t an easy journey, with accidents and the pandemic coronavirus stunting its development, but to this point Pulisic is happy with his exploits.

He told the 13&ME podcast about his experiences at Chelsea: “What happened was pretty wild. Following the Gold Cup I had to fly straight from my summer break. I had a week off and I didn’t get a summer.

“The team had already begun the pre-season in Japan and I had to fly straight there and I had to fly by myself literally and then meet the team that had flown off London.

“I had to go straight to the hotel and the next thing was to go straight to the training schedule. I was tired, nervous, and I didn’t know what to think, but I’m in Chelsea and it’s crazy.

The first couple of days of training was nervous for Pulisic. On day three he had good training, scored some goals, had some nice plays and assists and then he noticed the guys coming and talking to him and showing their respect.
