Ralph Hasenhuttl revealed that he has been working hard to find a solution for the poor form of Southampton this season. He revealed he has been working on a new play style that can help replicate the form of 2020 rather than that of 2021. Southampton led the Premier league table last November while reaching the semi-finals of the FA cup. they then endured some of the worst forms in the club’s history that put their Premier league stats in doubt.
“We have shown already how good we can be in 2020, in 2021 so far not,” Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl said. “But it is up to us – the staff, trainer, coaches – to change the things that did not go well and analyze the last season very well and come up with the right answers for the issues we had, especially in the second half of the season. And to strengthen the team with a few signings and a different way of playing football and come back stronger, because the Premier League will again be a little bit stronger than last season.”
Southampton conceded 68 goals in the Premier League last season. They conceded nine in a 9-0 defeat to Manchester United. It was their second season where they had considered the same amount after doing so against Leicester the season prior.
“Clean sheets are a bigger target for us,” admits Hasenhuttl “and we had eight after the first half of the season, and we ended up with nine, so you can see that the second half was not that successful. And our average number of goals scored would normally lead to a top-10 finish, the goals we conceded are normally for relegation, so we have to change this part of our game definitely.”
