Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has said that he does not need to defend Florentino Perez publicly. Florentino Perez has taken a lot of criticism over Real Madrid’s involvement in the European Super League. Real Madrid has still not withdrawn from the competition with Florentino Perez insisting that the breakaway competition is needed.
Real Madrid host Chelsea in the Champions League semi-finals today. There is a big possibility of expulsion from next year’s edition looming over their heads. Perez is under fire but Zinedine Zidane has insisted that the Real Madrid president is aware of his support.
“The president knows what I have in my heart and what I think, and we are here to prepare [for] tomorrow’s match,” said Zidane. “The rest is not that we are not interested, it’s just not the moment to talk about it. We are going to play a Champions League semi-final, and that’s all we can think about.”
Real Madrid President Perez is said to be one of the main protagonists behind the European Super League. Madrid, Barcelona, and Juventus are yet to withdraw from the tournament in hopes of reviving the competition. The Big Six from England were the first to withdraw from the competition after which it crumbled slowly.
“We have a match tomorrow, I’m sorry but I’m not going to answer about that,” Zidane replied when asked about the European Super League situation. “Right now people are talking a lot about whether we will be in the competition next year or not. We have to pay attention to tomorrow’s match.”
“He played 20 minutes the other day and he felt quite good,” said Zidane when quizzed about returning winger Eden Hazard. “The most important thing is that he doesn’t feel anything about his problem. He’s quite well, he’s with us, he’s happy to be with us and contribute to the team a lot.”
