In their plans for Martin Ødegaard, Real Madrid has made an about-face by telling Real Sociedad that they expect to bring back the Norway midfielder from his two-year loan to Anoeta soon, reports AS.
The decision came after Zinedine Zidane called for the early return of the 21-year-old, who shone in this season’s blue-and-white jersey.
Zidane’s transfer is focused on the midfielder’s excellent results for La Real but will also help to cast more doubt on the future of some of Madrid’s established midfielders, including Isco, James Rodríguez, and Toni Kroos.
Real Sociedad believed that Ødegaard would stay for another season under Imanol Alguacil ‘s tutelage in line with their Madrid deal and decided that the player would report to Anoeta on August 14 for pre-season training.
However, it now seems the player has impressed Zidane with suitability during the pulsating 3-4 Copa del Rey victory at the Bernabéu in La Real.
Real Madrid’s Champions League exit undoubtedly affected Zidane ‘s decision.
