Nicolas Tagliafico says that there is nothing specific about the speculation of a potential move to Barcelona as he suggested that he would set out to leave Ajax this summer.

In January 2018, the Argentine full-back joined Independiente’s Dutch giants and quickly cemented his first-team spot.

Several top teams have captured the attention of the 27-year-old’s exploits for club and country. While Atletico Madrid has recently seen a deal fail for him last summer, Barcelona is said to be eager to land him around this time.

After 99 appearances for Ajax, Tagliafico has suggested he’s had enough to play in the Eredivisie and wants to leave for a more challenging league to play in.

“It has always been my goal to play at the best competitions, in a top club. Ajax is a great club but it’s not a great competition for the Eredivisie. You just have to have the dreams. The preparations will commence for about two months in August. Yet whether I should leave, or not: All is unknown,” Tagliafico said in an interview with Continental radio station.

In Spain, it has been confirmed that Barcelona is eyeing him on a summer offer as they look to replace Junior Firpo, who has struggled to break into the team of Quique Setien since joining Real Betis last summer.

Last month, Mundo Deportivo reported the Spanish giants had already had multiple talks with Tagliafico ‘s team, while the player is said to be eager to meet with Frenkie de Jong and Argentina’s co-star Lionel Messi.

Yet Tagliafico claims he has learned nothing definite about the Catalan giants and keeps his feet on the ground.

“I’m trying to think about my fitness, to stay as fit as possible in case I go to another club. I’m standing on the sidelines. Maybe I’m on the [Barcelona’s] list, but there’s nothing definite about it. You have to keep calm. I’m just trying to remain calm.”

Ajax chief executive Edwin van der Sar recently opened the door for Tagliafico, considered to be worth €35 m (£30.4 m) to leave the Netherlands giant.
