Last night, the Spurs cruised into the last-16 UEFA Europa League, beating Wolfsberger 4-0 comfortably at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, ensuring they won the 8-1 two-legged affair on aggregate.
For Jose Mourinho’s side, two goals from Carlos Vinicius, a spectacular effort from Dele Alli, and a composed finish from Gareth Bale sealed a comfortable evening’s work.
In total, Mourinho made nine changes following Sunday’s 2-1 reverse to West Ham United, with only Eric Dier and Erik Lamela surviving the chop. It was Dele who stood head and shoulders above the rest of the nine players who made it into the team.
Before teeing up Vinicius and Bale to score in the second half, the England international scored a sensational overhead kick.
As he sent a timely reminder to Mourinho of the qualities he brings to the table when called upon, his contributions earned him ten out of ten in our player ratings.
Grealish message to Alli
Although no supporters of Tottenham were present yesterday evening inside the stadium to enjoy the spectacular goal of Dele Alli with him, no shortage of those watching at home soon flooded social media with comments and exasperated reactions.
It was a strike that could get anyone to their feet, most likely even opposed supporters had any inside the stadium.
The heroics of Dele even caught the attention of England’s team-mate and ace Jack Grealish of Aston Villa, who soon took to Instagram to wax lyrical about the strike of the attacking-midfielder.
“Naaaaaah @dele,” Grealish wrote, implying that he could not believe what the former MK Dons man had just done.
