Atalanta goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini has completed his medical in Milan before joining Tottenham in the Premier League. He could not travel to London for his medical due to restrictions in the country. The keeper will join Tottenham on a season-long loan.

“I am very happy. It is very difficult to leave my second home. I thank Bergamo [where Atalanta plays] and the fans. I felt very loved and what we did will remain in history.” Pierluigi Gollini said after joining Tottenham. “I am grateful to Tottenham for this opportunity, I can’t wait to start. The possibility of staying in Italy was there but Tottenham was the best opportunity.”

Tottenham will loan the Italian with an option to buy for £13m. In case Gollini plays a stipulated amount of games the option will become an obligation. The club will also have the option to extend the loan for another year. Fabio Paratici, Tottenham’s managing director of football, held extensive discussions with the Serie A club on Monday and also enquired about their center-back Cristian Romero. They are also in talks to bring in Japanese defender Takehiro Tomiyasu from bologna. Gollini will provide much-needed competition for club captain Hugo Lloris and Joe Hart.

The club is also closing in on a swap deal for Sevilla teenager Bryan Gil. Spurs are willing to pay £21.6m and Erik Lamela for Gil. The 20-year-old was not part of the Spain squad that made the semi-finals of Euro 2020, but he does have three caps for his country and is part of the team competing at the Tokyo Olympics.
