Steven Gerrard has revealed that Rangers have made strong progress in their pursuit of a midfielder. The position has been identified as one of the problematic positions in the team with a lot of transfer news football surrounding it. Gerrard has been able to retain the core of his squad from last season with just three departures from the senior team in the form of Bongani Zungu, Jordan Jones, and George Edmundson. So far, Rangers have signed just three players including Fashion Sakala, John Lundstram and Nnamdi Ofoborh, all on free transfers.
“No, not at all,” Gerrard said when asked if he was frustrated by the lack of transfer activity. “We’ve identified targets that we are looking at, to try and bring in. There’s a lot of hard work behind the scenes to make that happen. We’ve had some progress behind the scenes and when there’s something to announce, we will give you that information. But we are delighted to get John in, and Fashion, and hopefully we can do a little bit more business before the window shuts.”
“The progress [of a new signing] is really good. It’s strong. I’m hoping to have some news in the coming days but until it’s done and dusted, it’s very hard to give you an exact time and date.” he added. “I’m hoping for more positive news in the coming hours, maybe some time tomorrow (Thursday). Maybe we might have something to say around tomorrow’s game but we will just have to wait and see. But I don’t want to get too carried away or ahead of myself as well.”
