Inter Miami has announced the signing of former Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs, who will join David Beckham’s MLS franchise when his deal with West Brom ends in the summer.
Gibbs began his career with the Gunners, where he made over 200 appearances and won three FA Cups. He moved to West Brom in 2017, where he has had less success, suffering Premier League relegation in his first season but becoming a core member of the team that lost in the Championship play-off semi-finals the following season.
Since then, he has slipped down the pecking order at the Hawthorns, and it has now been reported that he will leave when his contract expires on July 1.
On the club’s website, Inter Miami announced his signing, with sporting director Chris Henderson claiming, “Kieran is an interesting player.” His technique, experience, and work rate would be helpful on the left hand. He has had a standout career at the highest levels so far, and we think he will carry the same degree of consistency to Inter Miami and the MLS this summer.”
“I’m incredibly happy to be launching the next phase of my career with Inter Miami this summer. In south Florida, I’m looking forward to embracing a new world and a new opportunity,” Gibbs said.
Gibbs joins a Heron’s squad that also comprises a variety of well-known faces. Phil Neville’s roster for the forthcoming MLS season includes Stoke City legend Ryan Shawcross, World Cup winner Blaise Matuidi, and Gonzalo Higuain.
