The 18th player to move from Red Bull Salzburg to RB Leipzig will be Dominik Szoboszlai. On Thursday, the Bundesliga side confirmed the deal. A contract that will hold him with the German Bundesliga side until 2025 will be signed by the Hungarian national team player.
The transfer amount was not reported by either club. However, Transfermarkt sources may confirm that the transfer fee was EUR 20 million, which is slightly lower than what rumors from England indicated earlier this month and also lower than the market value of Szoboszlai. Also, Salzburg will get a 20% stake in its next deal.
For Leipzig, after Red Bull Salzburg failed to reach the last 16 of the Champions League, the move became inevitable. Although no contract was originally scheduled for the winter, Die Roten Bullen did not want to miss the chance to sign one of the hottest talents in Europe. Also, Leipzig needed a second Erling Haaland scenario to be avoided; last winter, the Norwegian joined Borussia Dortmund from RB Salzburg.
“I’m very pleased that this transfer has been completed. The club has developed fantastically. It is among the best teams in the Bundesliga and is also doing well in the Champions League. This step is perfect for my development. I’m coming to Leipzig to work under a top coach and in an extremely ambitious team, that is very young but also has a lot of experience and has been able to celebrate success. Here, I’ll be able to continue my development incredibly and I want to help the club to continue its success in 2021.”
