Sergio Aguero ended his Manchester City career on a high note, shattering Wayne Rooney’s record for most Premier League goals scored for a single club. City’s all-time leading goalscorer, who is out of contract at the end of the season, scored his 184th Premier League goal in a 5-0 win over Everton on the final day of the season. Sergio Aguero Bids An Emotional Goodbye

Aguero came on as a 65th-minute substitute and netted two goals to surpass Wayne Rooney’s 183 goals for Manchester United. It also mirrored his City debut in 2011, when he came on as a substitute and scored twice in a 4-0 win over Swansea City.

After the game, Aguero told Sky Sports, “I want to thank my teammates because they have helped me a lot – thank you for everything. I’m a striker, and my goal is to score goals. I’m overjoyed because this is my last game, and scoring two goals is awesome for me. When I first arrived here, the first title was the most important for the club. And then Man City began to win more titles. I’m overjoyed because it’s not easy to be at one club for ten years; it’s an honor for me.”

Aguero can still appear in the Champions League final against Chelsea next Saturday. He has already established himself as the club’s most decorated player.

After the final whistle, the 32-year-old enjoyed his fifth Premier League title triumph. Pep Guardiola’s side will travel to Porto next week full of optimism after a successful season. Before the arrival of Sergio Aguero just after the hour, Kevin De Bruyne, Gabriel Jesus, and Phil Foden were all on goal.

After knee surgery last year, the striker’s season was ended by injury. He had some niggles in the build-up to the match. His goals, however, confirm that he will have the highest goals-per-minute ratio of any player in Premier League history.

Guardiola said, “We love him so much – he is a great soul for all of us. We won’t be able to replace him. There have been many players who have aided us here, and he demonstrated his worth in those 30 minutes.”

Aguero’s future is still up in the air. Barcelona is the frontrunners to sign him on a free transfer this season.
