Tottenham News | Antonio Conte is in advanced discussions to replace Mauricio Pochettino as Tottenham’s head coach, according to Goal Italy.
The Italian stepped down as Inter manager after winning the Serie A title in 2020-21, and it now looks that he may return to the Premier League after a two-year stint with Chelsea in 2016.
Former Juventus sports director Fabio Paratici is also said to be in talks with Spurs, with the 48-year-old having previously worked with Conte at Juventus.
Conte, who left Inter after the Nerazzurri won the Serie A title, is reportedly considering a return to England and is in advanced talks with Tottenham.
After ousting Jose Mourinho, Spurs are on the lookout for a new manager, with Ryan Mason taking over on a caretaker basis until the conclusion of the 2020-21 season.
Maurizio Sarri, another former Chelsea manager, was also in the running for the job at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but Conte, who led Chelsea to the Premier League title during his tenure at Stamford Bridge, is the favored candidate. The north London club is also considering appointing Fabio Paratici as director of football.
After 11 years with the Turin giants, Paratici, who worked with Conte during the latter’s extremely successful three-year time in command at Juve, is available.
Spurs had hoped to entice Mauricio Pochettino back to the club, but they are unlikely to persuade PSG to part with their head coach, with Real Madrid having previously failed to sign the Argentine.
If Conte is hired by Tottenham, one of the first and most significant jobs he would face is determining the future of star striker Harry Kane.
Kane has indicated his wish to quit Spurs, according to Goal, since he is dissatisfied with the club’s lack of growth.
It is unclear whether Conte’s hiring would persuade England captain Joe Hart to alter his mind, but it is sure to be considered as a good move by the club in choosing a proven winner in the Italian.
Should Kane leave Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Spurs may consider a deal for Inter striker Romelu Lukaku, who has developed a good connection with Conte at the San Siro over the previous two seasons.
