Virgil van Dijk paid tribute to Naby Keita after Liverpool ended their victorious season in the Premier League with a 3-1 victory on Sunday over Newcastle United.

Keita made only 18 appearances in the league this season for Jurgen Klopp ‘s side with the 25-year-old coping with minor injuries.

The Guinea midfielder struggled to end the season with a bang, but scored a spectacular goal last time out in a dramatic 5-3 victory over Chelsea before backing up against Newcastle and playing 85 minutes.

Although flying this campaign quite under the radar, Van Dijk was swift to sing Keita out for praise, indicating that his best at Anfield is yet to come.

Van Dijk told LFC TV: “I’m just really happy with Naby, he’s a nice man. He works so hard and is an excellent player in football, we see it week in, week out. Sadly with some injuries, he has been unfortunate, but hopefully next season he will be able to remain completely fit. I think if I’m completely honest, he’s world-class. I see the times he’s got the ball, the smart gestures, and his intellect, it’s just incredible to see and I’m very happy for him.”

Keita, who officially joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in August 2018, also experienced a tumultuous first season with the Reds and lost out on a groin injury in the Champions League final.
