Derby County manager Wayne Rooney revealed he turned down an approach from Everton for the vacant managerial position at the club. The club is reportedly holding talks with Vitor Pereira, Frank Lampard, and Duncan Ferguson. Rafael Benitez was sacked just 200 days into the job after a woeful run of form that culminated in a 2-1 loss to the bottom of the table Norwich.

“Everton approached my agent and asked me to interview for the vacant job, which I turned down,” Wayne Rooney said. “I believe that I will be a Premier League manager and I believe I’m ready for that 100 percent, and if that is with Everton one day in the future that’d be absolutely great. But I’ve got a job here to do at Derby County which is an important job to me.”

“Yes, of course, I did [think hard about it]. They got in touch with my agent and my agent let the administrators know as well. Of course, it was a very difficult decision for me,” he added. “Chaotic is one way of describing it. It’s been a bit of a tricky time at Everton to say the least, but they appear to be drawing a conclusion on the search. Farhad Moshiri is flying into the UK to oversee the finalization of this process. There is the latest round of interviews today. We know that Frank Lampard is still in the frame as well as Vitor Periera is in the frame and Duncan Ferguson is an option too.”
