The Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has welcomed teammate Virgil van Dijk to come back better from the ACL wound that will keep him sidelined for the near future.
The 29-year-old center-back, who picked up the injury after a wild challenge from Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, is expected to miss the remainder of the current season after undergoing surgery to help fix his knee.
It is one of the toughest injuries for any athlete to come back from it, but Wijnaldum told VI that he knows Van Dijk is safe enough to overcome adversity.
“Virgil, with the will of God, will return,” said Wijnaldum.
“For him, this is a rough time; it’s the toughest thing you can face like a football player. You go through hell. But I think he’s very strong. Now and then we FaceTime, and that’s very cool.”
