Real Madrid’s first-choice center-backs are set to depart, but Zinedine Zidane hopes to keep them.
Zinedine Zidane has refused to offer any assurances about Sergio Ramos’ future, but he is certain that Raphael Varane will remain at Real Madrid.
Ramos’ contract with the team expires at the end of the season, and he said on Thursday that he had “nothing new” to say about a possible extension.
According to the club website, he said of Ramos ahead of Saturday’s LaLiga match with Elche: “I can’t answer that question because I don’t know. I hope Ramos stays at the club; he’s a key player who has done a lot for us in the past, and I hope he will continue to play.”
Zidane, on the other hand, seems to be optimistic that his compatriot has no desire to leave Madrid and continues to praise life in the Spanish capital.
“I don’t think playing anywhere is his first preference. He is often complimentary about the club. He’s really happy here. I don’t think he’ll be able to play somewhere else,” Zidane said.
