Hearts put up a sublime performance to produce one of the comfortable football results of the weekend in the Scottish Premiership. Lawrence Shankland opened the scoring in the first minute before Barrie McKay doubled their advantage in the 48th minute. Jorge Grant made it three in the 62nd minute before Steven Fletcher pulled one back in the 71st minute.
Managers Reaction
Hearts boss Robbie Neilson: “We started the game really well but I thought the first half we never played anywhere near the levels we normally play at. We were trying to force the play, giving it away and not doing the things we’d spoken about previously. We changed it at half-time and managed to get settled in the game and do what we’re good at. We’re getting there. But I thought the first half we were pretty poor, similar to Ross County (on an opening day), and if we do that on Thursday night we will be two or three goals down. We need to start the game better.”
Dundee Utd boss Jack Ross: “I own the responsibility. We need to look at what we’re doing and how we’re preparing. We’ve had a different couple of weeks for the players because of European games, that’s not an excuse. We’ve got a clear week now and it’s a week we need to use to the maximum to make sure when we come into our next league game we provide the level of performance that there should be at Dundee United. When one game begins, the other game is forgotten about. You have to give yourself a platform to win football matches and we didn’t do that by not doing the fundamentals of the game in terms of matching runs, being physical, and putting contact on people in the first 45 seconds, which is not great.”
