Kylian Mbappe scored a late winner to help PSG produce one of the narrow football results of the midweek action in the Champions League. Lionel Messi missed a penalty for the hosts in the 62nd minute when Thibaut Courtois dived low to his left. It was a pivotal moment in the game with the visitors defending resolutely.
“It was a great game for us and I’m always ready to help my team, there are no distractions,” PSG forward Kylian Mbappe said. “We have to be humble and the second leg is still open. It will be a hard game but we will have the advantage and are very confident. I’ve not decided on my future. I play for Paris Saint Germain, one of the best clubs in the world. I give my best and then we will see what happens next season. How to ignore the (transfer) context? It’s easy, you have to play football. We ask too many questions, we say too many things. We talk about PSG and Real, two big clubs. I’m a PSG player, I’m always very happy.”
“Our counter-attack didn’t work today,” Courtois said. “It’s hard to lose but the second leg is wide open. We have to win and we will try to do it in front of our fans, which is a great advantage.”
“Mbappe is the best player in European football,” Real manager Carlo Ancelotti said. “We didn’t play well but we are not dead yet.”
