Football Scores: Brighton 2-4 Arsenal

Arsenal moved seven points clear at the top of the table as they produced one of the high-scoring football scores of the weekend in the Premier League. Arsenal took advantage of the situation after Manchester City’s 1-1 draw with Everton earlier in the day, and Bukayo Saka’s assured finish gave them the lead after just two minutes. Before the end of the first half, Martin Odegaard scored, and after Gabriel Jesus’ injury, Eddie Nketiah added a second. Although Gabriel Martinelli sealed the victory after an incredible assist from Odegaard, Kaoru Mitoma cut Brighton’s deficit. Arsenal survived a late scare when Mitoma had the ball in the net for 4-3 with the stoppage-time left but the goal was ruled out by VAR for offside. Evan Ferguson, 18, became Brighton’s youngest-ever Premier League scorer.

Arsenal knew before the game even started in the final Premier League contest of 2022 that a victory would put them seven points in front and make the visitors’ New Year’s celebrations particularly spectacular. With his sixth goal in his previous six outings for club and country, Saka gave them the lead after just two minutes of play. Although Gabriel Martinelli’s shot was blocked, Saka received the ball well and finished flawlessly. In the first five minutes, there were five shots at the Brighton goal, demonstrating the team’s confidence and momentum.

On minute 17, Martinelli nearly scored after Odegaard made a brilliantly disguised pass, and even though Brighton got better as the half went on, Arsenal had the higher quality. In little time, the opposition was up 2-0. Odegaard’s strike from a corner was only partially blocked, but it still managed to loop into the far corner, bringing his total for the season to seven goals in his previous 13 Premier League outings. Within two minutes after the restart, Arsenal added a third goal, continuing their strong first-half performance. Nketiah reacted swiftly to Martinelli’s strike, which was too hot to control, and poked the ball home in front of a delighted away end.

Brighton, on the other hand, persisted and established their footing. The talented Mitoma received a deft pass from Pascal Gross, who placed it in the bottom corner for Arsenal to consider. However, the tension was reduced when Martnelli scored a 4-1 goal at the 71-minute mark. However, the focus of the goal was on Odegaard, who made the winning pass to Martinelli on the turn. One of the season’s passes was that one. Ferguson had a standout performance for Brighton, netting his first Premier League goal after coming on as a substitute while holding off William Saliba and finishing forcefully to complete the football scores. He didn’t turn 18 until October.

Mitoma jinked into space and blasted into the bottom corner for Brighton in the 89th minute, but VAR disallowed the goal for a slight offside in the build-up as the Amex was rocking and the players were getting ready for the restart. Arsenal had the night. Additionally, it can be their season.

“That was a significant victory over a very talented team. We had significant moments and were quite brutal. We experienced some wonderful moments, but there were also times when we had to dig deep and endure hardship since they got you into problems and are a really positive aspect,” Mikel Arteta said. “It’s really challenging to come here and expect to play Brighton off the park without giving up any goals. To win three games in a row again was a significant challenge for us. It’s a significant victory; on to the next.”
