James Tavernier scored his 80th goal for the club to help Rangers produce one of the comfortable football scores of the weekend in the Scottish Premiership. Rangers took the lead through an own goal by Liam Kelly before Leon Balogun was sent off in the 28th minute. Ross Tierney equalized in the 35th minute before Scott Wright restored the lead in the 47th minute. Tavernier sealed the three points with a penalty in the 62nd minute.
Managers Reaction
Motherwell boss Graham Alexander: “I find it amusing that we get in the top six and get no credit and other clubs get in the top six and get lots of credit. After 33 games the league doesn’t lie, we’re in the top six. We’ve got more points than six other clubs which means we finish in the top six so I don’t know why my players aren’t getting the credit that the other clubs are getting.”
Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst: “We started off really well, where 1-0 up and had control of the game. With the red card, we had to switch to a different way of playing and I think we did it really well, especially in the second half. You just have to make sure you create the chances although you are one man less and the players did really well. We just have to accept the red card, we couldn’t do anything about it and it’s the decision of the ref.”
