Hull sack Shota Arveladze after eight months in charge

Hull City have sacked head coach Shota Arveladze just eight months after he took charge as they lie in 20th place on the Championship table. They finished 19th last season. On the same day that the club hosts Luton in their next Championship game, the decision to fire Arveladze is made. Peter van der Veen, the club’s assistant manager, is also leaving, thus Andy Dawson has been named interim manager for the time being.

“We met with Shota several times over the international break to talk about the team’s strategy and the club’s future. As these conversations continued, it became apparent that our viewpoints weren’t in sync, so we decided to split ways,” Hull owner Acu Ilicali said after the sacking of Shota Arveladze. “We bid farewell to Shota and Peter with gratitude, the utmost respect, and best wishes for the future. Our current priorities are finding the ideal man to lead this club forward and supporting Andy and the team.”

The dismissal of Arveladze is the third firing in the Championship in the previous 16 days. Danny Schofield, the manager of Huddersfield, was fired on September 14 and Mark Fotheringham took over on Wednesday. Rob Edwards was fired by Watford earlier this week following just nine games in charge, and Slaven Bilic was soon named as the former Forest Green Rovers manager’s replacement.

“That question has been posed to me a lot as a manager. Although time is vital and we would want to be given some, clubs frequently change managers,” new Watford manager Slaven Bilic said. “I’m in a good position, to be honest. Do you believe they hire managers just to fire people? They select managers with the goal of success. I’m in a good position even now, when everyone is talking about Watford firing managers and No. 16, 17, or anything.”
