I knew I was talented: Franco Baresi

Franco Baresi is commonly recognized as one of the greatest ever defenders in the game. The Italian won everyone he could have won in the game in his impressive career with AC Milan and Italy. MARCA had the pleasure of sitting down to speak to the 60-year-old.

Marca asked few questions to Franco about his career. Marca asked questions about Franco fashion style, thoughts regarding the clubs, captaincy, the 1982 World Cup and etc.

Let us see what does Franko has to say:

He said: I knew I was talented but I knew I had to work hard and be consistent if I wanted to be the best. These are aspects I think that made me who I was. Milan is a passion for my life. As a teenager, I arrived and won as much as possible. I think back to my youth, the steps I had to take, and the challenges … I came as a child, I am now 60 years old and a little bit wiser and more mature.

I’ve had too much experience with Milan, as a player and in management. It’s been a long path; I’ve met a lot of people who have helped me evolve and keep improving. Milan is my city. I love the culture, food, and art. It is the place where you will start to develop.

I’m so proud to have been able to captain Milan for so many years; I’ve been wearing the bracelet for 15 years and it’s something that has an incredible impact on the wearer. Maybe I wasn’t ready at the age of 22, but I’ve learned along the way and I’ve had to stand out on the field. I had to inspire my teammates to demonstrate bravery and never leave anyone behind.

It’s always a success to be part of and play at a World Cup. Winning it in 1982 was a remarkable experience and seeing a whole country celebrating. It was unforgettable. ’94’s frustration has slowly vanished but over the years I’ve been thinking about it.
