Rangers confirmed Ianis Hagi’s signing on a permanent deal after purchasing Genk’s midfielder after his six-month loan deal.

After joining the club in January Hagi scored one goal in seven Premiership appearances for the Gers and was described as “a pleasure to coach” by manager Steven Gerrard.

RANGERS may confirm that Ianis Hagi has agreed to join the club on a permanent, long-term contract, with the Light Blues negotiating their buying option.

Full Romanian International, Hagi, 21, played on 12 occasions for Rangers, scoring three goals including a memorable brace in the Europa League v Braga to send Rangers to the final 16 as well as a winner against Hibernian.

Hagi, the son of great Gheorghe Hagi from Romania, had moved from Viitorul Constanta to Genk just last year.

His next game in the league for Rangers will not come until the season 2020-21, with 2019-20 being announced this month and Celtic being confirmed as champions.

Hagi established himself as a senior international with 10 caps, having risen through Romania’s under-age ranks. Twice nominated for the European Golden Boy, Hagi is regarded as one of European football’s most promising young talents. Hagi played in the UEFA European Under-21 Championship, scoring for Croatia and England, helping Romania progress to the semi-finals.

In his brief loan spell at Ibrox Ianis quickly established himself as a fan favorite. He will join Steven Gerrard’s squad as the team prepares for pre-season training until the move is fully completed when the summer window opens.

Ross Wilson, Sporting Director added, “We are pleased that Ianis has chosen to continue his career at Rangers.

First team manager Steven Gerrard said, “Ianis is known as a young, exciting talent in Europe so it’s fantastic news to see him join Rangers permanently.”
