Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp believes that his team needs to go back to basics in their game against Rangers in the Champions League. Brighton held Liverpool to a 3-3 draw on Saturday, allowing Liverpool to fall 11 points behind league-leading Arsenal despite having a match in hand. Since Klopp’s team has only won twice in the league thus far this season and has lost 4-1 at Napoli in their first Champions League group match, the pressure on them is stronger before their back-to-back games against Rangers.
“It would have been a different experience but with the same issues if we had defeated Brighton,” Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp said. “Almost everything needs to be done better. We were just in a similar predicament two years prior when we lost all of our center halves, but we managed to find a solution by working through it. We’ll proceed in that manner this time.”
“We have previously conceded goals similar to these when teams used the same holes; the problem is a brave style of defending. Intense effort is required; otherwise, there will be a problem. We have to get closer to each other. Defense is a talent that we have used to our advantage for a very long time. When it breaks, though, you realize you have to start anew,” he added.
Liverpool’s defense has been under particular fire this season because the group has only kept two clean sheets in all competitions. The lack of commitment from Klopp’s team members has been cited as a contributing issue. Klopp is aware that Liverpool’s opponents on Tuesday will test them because they reached the Europa League final last year, but they haven’t earned a point in the Champions League.
