Jurgen Klopp revealed that Mohamed Salah is extremely disappointed about losing the AFCON final after he joined the Liverpool squad. Egypt lost to Senegal in the final via the penalty shootout with the Liverpool star not getting a chance to take a spot-kick. He returned to Merseyside the following day to get up to speed to face Leicester.
“He’s very disappointed, it was a massive thing,” Jurgen Klopp said about Mohamed Salah. “Losing a final is always really hard, I can sing that song, but losing the way they did was especially hard. He is happy to be back but is disappointed as well, massively so. We spoke about the tournament. He will deal with that of course. I hope today [Wednesday] will already be better but yesterday everyone could see he has the final on his mind. Is there greater determination for Mo? I am not sure that is human. I don’t think there’s a lot of space for more determination in Mo’s mind. He will benefit off it and we will benefit off it.”
“It’s such a big thing, everybody saw the celebrations in Senegal,” he added. “We didn’t want to stress anybody there and ask for Sadio to come back earlier. He should just enjoy it and come back as early as possible. I think it will be tonight. Yesterday he enjoyed his training session a lot, I’m not sure I ever saw a player smiling so constantly during a rondo.”
